Stolen motor vehicles and parts seized; man charged in Greenacre

A man will appear in court today charged as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged organised theft of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts in Sydney’s south west.

Last week, officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command’s Proactive Crime Team established Strike Force Droll to investigate information received regarding a stolen utility located at a motor vehicle recycling business on Claremont Avenue, Greenacre.

As part of investigations, officers executed a crime scene warrant at a cargo facility on Mainline Road, Strathfield South, about 6.30pm on Friday (24 July 2020), where they intercepted and seized an industrial shipping container that was due to be exported to Egypt.

Strike force investigators, with assistance from the Financial Crime Squad’s Motor Unit, commenced an examination of the container on Tuesday (28 July 2020).

During the examination, police seized the front end of four Toyota Hilux’s that had been reported stolen, and a large number of motor vehicle engines, panels and other vehicle parts.

Following extensive inquiries, a 53-year-old man was arrested at the Greenacre business about 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 29 July 2020).

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with 15 offences including licensee fail to keep register, recycler not mark each dismantled part as prescribed (x5), goods suspected stolen in/on premises (motor vehicle x5), and attempt dispose motor vehicle part-theft (x4).

The Bankstown man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 30 July 2020).
