Stolen van crashes at Welland, South Australia

A van stolen from a child care centre crashed into a carport at Welland this morning. Two men found nearby were arrested.

The Toyota Hiace van was stolen during a break-in at the centre at Lockleys overnight.

Police spotted the stolen white van in the backstreets of Flinders Park just before 8am, but it took off from the patrol and they immediately lost sight of it.

About 8.10am police were called to Welland Avenue, Welland by reports a van had collided with a carport structure. The stolen van had been abandoned in the car park of a group of units and become wedged in the carport.

The van contained various stolen items from the break-in and tools.

Police searched the area for the occupants of the van.

A 31-year-old Woodville Park man and 35-year-old West Croydon man were located nearby on Port Road and arrested. They have been charged with illegal use and unlawful possession.

Crime scene investigators are attending the scenes of the break-in and abandoned vehicle this morning.

Investigations are continuing.
