Six hundred students from 14 schools throughout north west Victoria have already indicated their interest in coming along to this week’s Ouyen Emergency Services Day.
A joint initiative between Mildura Rural City Council, Victoria Police and Ouyen Inc, the event will be held at the Ouyen Lake on Wednesday 6 September from 10am to 4pm.
It will feature displays and representatives from Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, Country Fire Authority and the Victoria State Emergency Service.
Mildura’s Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Community Development Helen Healy said the event was a great opportunity for local residents, and young people in particular, to learn more about the various emergency services agencies.
“For many of us, exposure to our region’s hard-working emergency services agencies is usually seeing a passing vehicle or uniformed officer in the street or calling on them for help in an emergency,” Cr Healy said.
“This week’s event at Ouyen is a unique opportunity to get a real behind-the scenes look at what our wonderful emergency services organisations do, including the numerous roles within each service.
“For local students, this event could be invaluable in terms of learning about volunteer and career opportunities within the emergency services.”
The Ouyen Emergency Services Day is free and open to the public, with no booking required. A barbecue lunch will also be provided free of charge by the Ouyen Lions Club.
