The Tasmanian Government recognises the important role sport plays in raising awareness of mental health, with the Tasmania Devils’ inaugural Mental Health Match shining a spotlight on the importance of connection, wellbeing and seeking support.
The match at North Hobart Oval today brings the community together under the theme ‘Stronger Together – Who’s in Your Huddle?’.
Acting Premier and Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said initiatives like this mental health match help create opportunities for people to talk openly about mental health and wellbeing.
“Mental health affects all of us, whether directly or through someone we know and care about,” Minister Archer said.
“The Stronger Together message encourages every Tasmanian to reach out, check in on those around them and remember that no one needs to face life’s challenges alone.
“Events like this are incredibly important because they help normalise conversations about mental health and reduce stigma.”
Minister Archer said a key focus of the Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is fostering a caring community and boosting access to mental health and wellbeing services.
“Our Government is investing in the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians, with over $648 million provided for mental health services since coming to government,” Minister Archer said.
“The 2026-27 Budget includes funding for the new mental health precincts being established in each region of Tasmania, expanding Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home to the North, and supporting community-based organisations across the State.”
