Super Saturday Brings Best Of Best To Flemington

  • Minister for Racing

Super Saturday at Flemington will showcase Australia’s best racehorses while providing off-track entertainment to suit all racegoers.

Minister for Racing Martin Pakula today announced that the Andrews Labor Government would provide $20,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the A-list meeting on 7 March.

Super Saturday is a standout day on Australia’s racing calendar, highlighted by the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

The day will also deliver the best locally-brewed craft beers, botanical-inspired cocktails, stunning wine selections and food from some of Melbourne’s top restaurants.

There will be a range of fun family activities including face painters, balloon artists and roving entertainment.

Since December 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $15.5 million to support infrastructure projects and race meetings at Flemington.

The metropolitan thoroughbred racing industry generates more than $2.4 billion for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 19,000 full-time-equivalent jobs.

“Victoria’s racing calendar is the best in the nation and we’re making sure that it stays that way.”
