Superyachts from across the world could soon dock in the river city.
The Palaszczuk Government today announced a 12-month trial to bring superyachts to Brisbane, in what could be a billion-dollar coup for the city’s economy.
Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said as part of a state-wide strategy to grow Queensland’s marine industries, the trial will see a dedicated superyacht mooring buoy below the Kangaroo Point Cliffs
“We want to maximise the jobs and business that superyachts bring with them,” Mr Dick said.
“Superyachts are expected to contribute more than $1.1 billion to gross state product and support nearly 8000 jobs by 2021 in South East Queensland alone.
“Further north, supporting the industry will also bring in $580 million and create 4500 full-time equivalent jobs.
“We want to attract more superyachts to Queensland and Brisbane, and we want them to stay longer and spend more while they are here.
“The location provides convenient access to the Brisbane CBD and facilities allowing superyacht passengers and crew to enjoy all the city has to offer while also contributing to the economy of South-East Queensland.
Superyacht Strategy Champion and State Member for Cairns Michael Healy said the announcement followed major investments in the sector already being made by the Queensland Government to build a superyacht berth on the Gold Coast as well as round two of the government’s Superyacht Industry Development Fund.
“The fund encourages operators to tap into up to $19,000 in matched funding to help with business certifications, tradeshow participation and client attraction,” he said.
“Growing this industry will bring benefits for Queensland and our many leading marine businesses right along the supply chain.

Maritime Safety Queensland will manage the mooring, including bookings, fees, maintenance, compliance and administration and it is expected the trial will commence mid-year.
