Support on offer at Community Recovery Hub

A Community Recovery Hub will operate in Jimboomba for storm-affected residents.
A Community Recovery Hub will provide a place for storm-affected residents to talk to support and Community Recovery staff about a range of matters.

The City of Logan continues to take steps towards recovery with the opening of a dedicated support centre for those impacted by this week’s severe storms.

From tomorrow (Monday, January 1), a Community Recovery Hub will operate at Jimboomba Library and Community Centre on Honora St and run from 9am to 4pm daily until further notice.

The Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts provide overall management of the hub and the service co-ordination will be provided at a local level by YFS.

The hub will provide a place for residents to talk to support and Community Recovery staff, receive referrals for community and government agencies, apply for hardship grants and receive insurance information.

These grants are funded as part of joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Residents can check their eligibility by visiting: qld.gov.au/community/disasters-emergencies/disasters

To assist residents The Rotary Club of Jimboomba is also providing emergency relief support from the nearby Jimboomba Community and District Hall.

This support includes meals, food donations and a place for the community to come and charge devices and access air-conditioning between 9am and 9.30pm daily.

Free shower and laundry services delivered by Orange Sky Laundry will also be located at the hall.

Mayor Darren Power said the opening of the hub and the emergency relief being provided by The Rotary Club of Jimboomba and Orange Sky Laundry were important steps towards getting the city on track again.

“We will continue working with the community and local agencies to help everyone who has been impacted by the recent storms to get their lives back to normal,” Cr Power said.

“I encourage anyone needing face-to-face support to visit the Jimboomba hub and access the services provided by Rotary and Orange Sky.”

For those unable to access the Jimboomba Recovery Hub, support services and grant advice is available through the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.
