From floods and fires to drought and storms, Queensland has seen it all in 2019, and in true Queenslander style, the whole community has supported each other through it all.
As 2019 comes to a close, New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba is the perfect, family-friendly event to get together and reflect on the year gone by and your hopes for the new decade to come.
At this year’s event, Sunshine Coast Council has partnered with the Queensland Country Women’s Association to help raise funds for families suffering from the current natural disasters, and Sunshine Coast Council is kicking things off with a $10,000 donation to the Rural Crisis Fund.
Division 4 Councillor John Connolly encouraged the Sunshine Coast community to come together at New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba and get behind this great initiative to help raise money for rural families in need.
“Through the Rural Crisis Fund, the QCWA is each day responding to more than 100 requests for financial support from Queensland families suffering from the current natural disasters, including the fires and drought,” Cr Connolly said.
“NYE Mooloolaba has always been a fantastic event enjoyed by around 30,000 people each year, so imagine what a difference we could make if each person who attended made a gold-coin donation to the QCWA. That small gesture will go a long way to helping our fellow Queenslanders who are doing it tough.”
NYE Mooloolaba is the region’s biggest end-of-year free event, with Sunshine Coast locals and visitors coming together to celebrate from 4pm to midnight on Tuesday 31 December.
Rural Crisis Fund collection tins will be located at entry gates and the Loo with a View, so please dig deep and help in any way you can, every little bit counts.
Cr Connolly said council was proud to support the QCWA and to put on this event for residents and visitors.
“In addition to helping those in need through the Rural Crisis Fund, NYE Mooloolaba will feature a great line-up of local bands and DJs, plenty of kids’ entertainment and activities and of course lots of delicious food,” Cr Connolly said.
This year, the Sea Stage will be located on the Esplanade and will feature live entertainment from 4.30pm, including the Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe, Karlou, Anna and Jordan, Mo’ Swagger, Mufassa and the Pride, DJ Tim Torque and DJ Sean Bannister.
For young revellers, the Kids’ Zone on Mooloolaba Beach and along Beach Terrace will offer a range of fun children’s activities and entertainment including street performers, Tribal Groove, Suzy the Face Painter, Katz Body Art, Bungee Trampoline, Beach Soccer, an Inflatable Obstacle Course and more.
The fireworks, dispersed over the ocean, will be held at 8.30pm and midnight.
Delight your taste buds with delicious food from local street vendors, restaurants and cafés on the Esplanade.
Council delivers this iconic event in a relaxed, safe, security-patrolled and fenced event zone in partnership with a number of organisations including Queensland Police, SES, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Safe Nite Out, Red Frogs, Queensland Ambulance Service and Sunshine Coast First Aid Volunteers, ensuring public safety is paramount.
Help us protect the environment, waterways and marine life by ensuring you bring your own empty water bottle, and please leave helium balloons and disposable chemical glow products at home. Battery operated LED products are permitted.
Don’t forget New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba is a drug, alcohol and glass free event. Intoxicated people will not be permitted entry.
A reminder to pet owners in the vicinity to ensure their pets are safe and secure during the fireworks.
