Supporting iconic venues and delivering jobs for Tasmania

Members,

The Tasmanian Government has provided consistent and sustained support for the building and construction industry and for commercial construction projects that needed support to proceed during a period of economic uncertainty created by the pandemic.

A prime example is the redevelopment of the iconic Telegraph Hotel on Hobart’s waterfront which the Tasmanian Government supported with a commercial loan provided through our Building Construction Support Loan Scheme.

The locally owned Telegraph Hotel has undergone extensive renovations over the past year to deliver an outstanding hospitality venue for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.

The project has supported up to 80 workers during the construction phase and will support up to 45 workers on an ongoing basis.

The redevelopment would not have been delivered at this time without the Building Construction Support Loan Scheme which was designed to increase commercial investment and deliver jobs.

The iconic Telegraph Hotel was first established in 1858 and has undergone a number of iterations all while being locally known as ‘The Tele’. It will feature a new rooftop bar which has outstanding views over the Hobart Waterfront and will showcase local Tasmanian food and beverage.

The Telegraph Hotel will be managed by Australian Venue Co, one of Australia’s leading pub operators. This will be Australian Venue Co’s first venue in Tasmania and demonstrates the fact that Tasmania is a leading location for long-term investment.
