Supporting South Barwon Cricket Club

Liberal Party Victoria

A future Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $400,000 towards upgrades at South Barwon Cricket Club.

South Barwon Cricket Club was established in 1951 and is the largest and one of the most successful cricket clubs in the region, with over 300 active members across seven senior men’s teams, two senior women’s teams and seven junior teams.

The club has seen a lack of investment in facilities, which is exacerbated by the fact they are not currently set up to accommodate the growth in women’s cricket and are in desperate need of gender-neutral change rooms.

As part of the Club’s masterplan, proposed upgrades to the pavilion include:

1. Four gender neutral change rooms with shower and toilet facilities;

2. An office/storage room along with an external viewing deck; and

3. A new main clubroom/function area along with a kitchen, bar, external viewing deck and disability accessible lift.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish, said this was an investment in the health and wellbeing of the Geelong and South Barwon community.

“It also demonstrates the Liberals and Nationals’ commitment to providing real opportunities for girls and women to play sport and to access safe, modern facilities where all players can train and compete.”

Liberal Candidate for South Barwon, Andrew Katos, said a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government is focused on meeting the needs of the community by delivering better local suburban infrastructure.

“It is so important to invest in our sporting facilities to ensure local sporting clubs can thrive well into the future.”

Liberal Candidate for Geelong, James Bennett-Hullin, said anything that helps encourage Victorians to get active or participate in local sporting groups is a win for the community.

“Local sporting clubs are a vital part of the Geelong community, and the Liberals and Nationals are proud to support grassroots sport with this commitment for South Barwon Cricket Club.”
