Surf park vision for Perth step closer with lease agreement signed

  • World class surf and leisure destination set to boost tourism and create jobs
  • First waves open to the public for Summer 2025
  • Attraction to be built on 5.7 hectares on Prinsep Road in Jandakot close to public transport and road links
  • The State Government has reached an agreement with proponent Aventuur to lease a parcel of land to enable a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art surf park to be built in Perth’s south.

Western Australian based surf park developer Aventuur – announced as the preferred proponent in September 2021 – can now progress to the next stage of plans to deliver a surf park development in Jandakot.

The surf park is set to become the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and will include a range of other attractions including accommodation, restaurants, a health and wellness centre, leisure amenities, and conference and function facilities.

The project will create up to an estimated 260 jobs during planning and construction, and around 65 full-time equivalent positions once operational.

Aventuur will use Wavegarden Cove technology to provide a surfing experience that is authentic, high-quality and environmentally responsible.

The Jandakot site is well situated, adjacent to Cockburn Central train station and the Kwinana Freeway.

Subject to local planning and environmental approvals, the attraction is anticipated to be open for summer 2025.

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

“It is great to see this exciting project, which will showcase Western Australia’s vibrant surfing culture, take a significant step forward with the lease agreement now confirmed.

“The proposal will create the largest surf park in the Southern Hemisphere, unlocking local jobs and economic opportunities.

“The project site in Jandakot will be well serviced by our road and rail upgrades in the area, including the Kwinana Freeway widening, the Thornlie-Cockburn Link and the North Lake Road and Armadale Road Bridge.”

As stated by Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai:

“I am so excited we are another step closer to having a state-of-the-art surf park in Jandakot.

“This world-class facility will establish an international tourist attraction right here in Jandakot, bringing in overseas visitors and establishing Perth as a global surfing hub.

“This will be a game changer for our southern suburbs.”
