With a recent catch in Lake Roseberry, keen anglers are reminded of the 43 remaining tagged trout still waiting to be caught across the State as part of the $100,000 Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion.
Tasmania’s wild brown trout fishery is one of the best in the world – from accessible areas to remote wilderness, there is something for all anglers.
Fifty tagged brown trout have been released into waters around Tasmania for the 2021-22 Angling Season, with each tag worth $2,000* to the angler that returns the fish to the Inland Fisheries Service (*conditions apply). The tags are orange and have unique identifying details.
For young people looking to join in the fun, now is the perfect time to register for a free junior angling licence and head out fishing.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s election Commitment of waiving junior Inland angler fees to help more young people enjoy our world class trout fishery and increase angling participation, has already seen almost 400 more junior angling licences on the same time last year ( a 44 per cent increase) with total angling licence sales tracking at similar levels to last year.
This follows total Tasmanian angling licence sales in 2020-21 being nearly 17 per cent higher when compared to the year prior.
A current inland angling licence is required to fish with a rod, reel and line in any inland water in Tasmania. Other rules apply and can change from water to water.
