The Tasmanian Government today welcomed two Supercars drivers to the State ahead of the 2022 NED Whiskey Tasmania SuperSprint event scheduled for 26-27 March.
It was great to meet drivers David Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth from the Grove Racing team in anticipation of round 2 of the Repco Supercars Championship, to be held at Symmons Plains.
We proudly support this fantastic event, continuing our long history of hosting a round of the Supercars at Symmons Plains since 2004 and bringing world-class motorsport for Tasmanians to experience and enjoy – right here in our own backyard.
Events like the Tasmania SuperSprint add great value to our visitor economy, and support Tasmania’s vision of becoming the ‘events capital’ of Australia.
Thousands of visitors will make their way to Tasmania for this event, many staying on to explore all we have to offer, with economic benefits spread across towns and businesses throughout the state.
The Repco Supercars Championship is arguably the State’s largest single sporting event, with the 2019 event attracting a total audience of more than 50,000 across three days, showcasing our fantastic motorsport facilities.
A special feature will be Tasmanian Supercars great Marcos Ambrose and four-time Bathurst winner Garth Tander taking their first drives in Tasmania in the new Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
The massive weekend of racing will also include the opening round of the V8 SuperUtes season, Aussie Racing Cars, and the return of the Tasmanian Tin Tops.
Our Government supports the event with $5.6 million over five years, and the current arrangements are in place until 2024.
