Tasmanian exports top $4 billion for first time

Guy Barnett,Minister for Trade

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our plan to secure Tasmania’s future with news today that exports have exceeded $4 billion for the first time.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics released new data today which shows that in the 12 months to August 2021, Tasmanian goods exports reached $4.151 billion. This compares to the previous record of $3.98 billion for the year to July 2021.

This is a huge 17.2 per cent higher than the previous year and exceeds the national growth rate of 15.1 per cent.

China and Hong Kong remain our number one export destinations with $1.777 billion in goods over 12 months, followed by Korea at $371 million, USA at $260 million, Vietnam at $254 million and Japan at $244 million.

Tasmania has always focused on producing quality over quantity and increasingly the world is recognising this and wants our quality produce.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue delivering an economy that supports and encourages Tasmanian businesses to produce world-class products and seek out export opportunities.

But we know there is more to do and we will continue to deliver our plan, grow our economy and our workforce, and invest in the key areas to secure Tasmania’s future.
