Tasmanian Liberal Government Ministry 28 February

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Today I am pleased to welcome Madeleine Ogilvie to the Ministry to join our Cabinet to continue the job of delivering our plan to secure Tasmania’s future.

The changes follow the resignation of Jane Howlett for personal and family reasons last Friday, and I again thank Jane for her service to Tasmania.

The Government’s agenda is progressing, and Tasmania is in a strong position which is why I don’t see the need for further wholesale changes.

Madeleine will become the Minister for the following portfolios: Small Business; Women; Hospitality and Events; Disability Services; and Racing. She will be sworn in at Government House shortly.

Madeleine is an experienced Member of Parliament who was first elected in 2014 and has been a strong and hardworking member within her Clark electorate.

Madeleine has an extensive background in business and law, including having worked for UNESCO, Allen’s law firm and as a General Manager with Telstra.

Madeleine is known for her refugee advocacy and her commitment to helping those Tasmanians who are less fortunate and vulnerable.

She has impressed me with her hard work, diligence, and her warmth since joining the Liberal team. I’d like to congratulate Madeleine and welcome her to our Cabinet.

All other Ministerial portfolios will remain as they were allocated on 17 February 2022.

I intend to nominate John Tucker to take on additional responsibility in the role of Deputy Speaker and Chair of Committees. Felix Ellis, in addition to being Parliamentary Secretary, will become the Parliamentary Whip.

In closing, Tasmania’s economy leads the nation, and we are delivering better outcomes for every region in Tasmania – in housing, education and health, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, and across our primary industries, resources, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Our unique position enables us to grasp the opportunities ahead, and as a strong, united majority Liberal Government, we look forward to delivering for Tasmanians and continuing the work we are doing to secure our state’s future.
