Premier Jeremy Rockliff should provide Tasmanians with cost of living relief, but instead he has chosen to ignore the one thing that could provide a meaningful assistance.
ABS figures released today shows that household spending decreased -1.4 per cent in July 2023.
The weakest household spending categories were recreation and culture (-13.6 per cent), clothing and footwear (-9.6 per cent), and furnishings and household equipment (-8.7 per cent).
This is a clear indication that Tasmanians are struggling with the cost of living as rents and mortgages continue to rise, inflation increases and families do their best to absorb a 22.5 per cent power increase.
After 10 years in office, the Liberals have left Tasmanians paying the price for their complete inaction on skyrocketing cost-of-living pressures.
Premier Rockliff could provide immediate relief to households and businesses by capping power prices.
Addressing the cost-of-living crisis is Labor’s number one priority.
A Labor Government will cap power prices within the first 100 days of being elected, saving the average household around $500 a year and assisting to ease the burden placed on many households.
