Tasmanians deserve answers on Mac Point debacle

Tasmanian Labor

Tasmanians deserve to know if this struggling Liberal Government is going to pay developers to not build houses in one of Australia’s least affordable and tightest housing markets.

Jeremy Rockliff refuses to give a clear answer on how much their abandonment of housing at the Escarpment in favour of the stadium will cost taxpayers.

In November last year, Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson said Milieu’s development would provide a significant boost to the economy:

“Milieu’s development of The Escarpment will provide a significant boost to our already strong economy, with the $100 million project anticipated to directly employ 215 FTE, and supporting a further 375 FTE during the construction period. Once complete, a further 110 FTE are expected to be employed for the ongoing operation of the site.”

Now, it looks like the government will compensate Millieu for not doing anything.

This year the Liberal Government has stumbled from one disaster to another, with no forward thinking or planning put into the stadium announcement, yet here Tasmanians are footing the bill for their incompetence.
