Jeremy Rockliff and Guy Barnett’s desperate health blame game isn’t going to help Tasmanians get the care they need.
New data shows the Federal government’s recent tripling of bulk-billing incentives is already reversing years of decline, with Tasmania experiencing the “greatest turnaround” in the country.
Can they name any part of the health system, for which they have responsibility, that has experienced the “greatest turnaround” in the country?
And to make matters worse, they’re today re-announcing a Federal government GP employment and training program, while at the same time claiming the Federal government isn’t doing enough. Which is it?
Tasmanians are sick of the Liberals’ health blame game.
Labor’s policy – announced in May last year – will see:
- A $60 million fund created to allow regional hospitals to expand their services, provide better emergency care across our regions and more sub-acute beds across our health system.
- A $28.4 million regional health workforce plan that includes a multidisciplinary team of rural generalist doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals.
- Labor paying the HECS-HELP debt of 150 health professionals in return for them working at one of our district hospitals for three years.
- Labor investing $6.5 million to support our state’s paramedics and improve ambulance response times, creating an additional 21 permanent paramedic positions across regional Tasmania.
- Labor investing an additional $1 million at the Rural Medical Workforce Centre at the Mersey Hospital to support the career pathway of nurse practitioners.
