Tea Gardens Pool update

MidCoast Council

Construction works on the Tea Gardens Pool has experienced numerous challenges, delaying the planned opening.

Works are now scheduled to finish in early November, weather permitting.

Prolonged wet weather is affecting large machinery accessing the site and the availability of trades. Engineering issues including subsoil contamination, damage to the existing pool structure and undermined base layers have only become evident after demolition works began.

“We were originally hoping locals and visitors could enjoy an upgraded, all-accessible Tea Gardens Pool from October,” said Daniel Aldridge, MidCoast Council’s Executive Manager of Community Spaces.

“However, like many construction projects, the contractors have been navigating challenging circumstances, with unforeseen engineering issues, extreme wet weather and the impacts of Covid-19 affecting the work site,” he said.

All parties are working hard to meet the new completion date and thanks the community for their patience.

Upon completion, swimmers of all-abilities will be able to enjoy the improved Tea Gardens Pool thanks to a $700,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The improvement project includes the construction of a new ramp into the existing pool, wider pathways, a wider entrance to the change areas, and a new all-access bathroom. MidCoast Council has also been able to add to the original scope of works and deliver new storage sheds for some of the pool’s user groups.
