We are providing $100,000 across two rounds of the 2019-20 Teddy Sheean Memorial Grants Program to fund and support Tasmanian veterans and ex-serving organisations.

Congratulations to the 11 successful recipients of grants under the second round of the 2019-20 Teddy Sheean Memorial Grants Program.

These organisations will share in a total of $50,000 to fund small infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and/or equipment purchases for RSLs throughout Tasmania, as well as war memorial construction, repair and maintenance.

Some of the projects to receive funding include:

  • Claremont RSL Sub Branch – $10,000 for upgrade of the air conditioning;
  • Scottsdale RSL Sub Branch – $550 for road signs for the Military Museum Scottsdale;
  • Meander Valley Council (auspicing for the Carrick Community Committee) – $2250 for the Carrick Cenotaph project; and
  • Ulverstone RSL Sub Branch – $1450 for repair of the Ulverstone Cenotaph.

The Teddy Sheean Memorial Grants Program was established by the Tasmanian Government as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by Tasmanian sailor Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean, who gave his life for his country and fellow shipmates during a battle in 1942 off the coast of East Timor.

The Grants Program honours Teddy Sheean as a representative of the many Tasmanians who selflessly gave their lives for others in the defence of this country.
