Teen assaulted on tram in South Melbourne

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance after a 15-year-old boy was seriously assaulted on a tram in South Melbourne last month.

Police have been told the teenager was with his girlfriend travelling to Southern Cross Railway Station about 9.15pm on Saturday 23 April.

When the tram reached the stop near Ferrars Street in South Melbourne, two unknown men boarded the tram and started harassing the victim’s girlfriend.

The victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the two men when they assaulted the boy, stomping on his head a number of times.

The tram stopped and the offenders, believed to be aged in their 40s, fled the scene.

A number of passengers witnessed the attack with one passenger seriously affected by the incident.

The 15-year-old Eltham boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Investigators have released an image of two men who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
