A teenage girl has been charged after a SUV and a semi-trailer crashed in Sydney’s west overnight.
Officers from the Dog Unit were travelling on the Great Western Highway at Eastern Creek about 11.50pm (Monday 17 April 2023), when an SUV was seen being driven allegedly at high speed.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The SUV and a semi-trailer collided at the intersection with the M7 off-ramp minutes later.
The truck driver was not injured, and five people from the SUV ran into bushland nearby.
Officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command assisted the Dog Unit in arresting five teenage girls.
All were taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where the alleged driver, a 17-year-old girl, was checked by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a dog bite sustained in the arrest.
She was later taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard for further treatment.
Following inquiries, four girls – one aged 13, one aged 14 and two aged 15 – have been released; all will be given a Youth Caution.
The alleged driver has now been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never-licensed person drive vehicle on road, and breach of bail.
Police will allege in court that the SUV had been reported stolen from a home in Lilyfield between Sunday night (16 April 2023) and Monday morning (17 April 2023).
The girl has been refused police bail and will face a bedside hearing this afternoon.
