Teenager charged after robberies at Forbes, NSW

A teenager has been charged over the attempted armed robbery of two local businesses in the state’s Central West.

About 10.50am on Tuesday 8 October 2019, a teenage boy armed with a knife entered a shop on Rankin Street, Forbes, and threatened staff, demanding money and cigarettes.

The shop attendant – a 49-year-old woman – yelled at the boy and told him to leave. He fled the area on a green scooter.

Officers from Central West Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Central West Police District arrested a 15-year-old boy at a home at Forbes about 6.20pm last Friday (21 February 2020).

He was taken to Forbes Police Station and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and intimidate police officer in the execution of duty.

Police will also allege in court that the boy was verbally aggressive and threatened a police officer while in custody.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Thursday 5 March 2020.

Following further inquiries, police investigating an attempted armed robbery at a Rankin Street restaurant arrested the boy just after 2.30pm on Sunday (23 February 2020).

Police will allege that the boy entered the restaurant about 3.15pm last Wednesday (19 February 2020), and threatened the 42-year-old female staff member with a a blade attached to a piece of wood and demanded cash. He fled the store empty handed.

The teen was taken to Forbes Police Station, where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

He was refused bail and appeared at a childrens court, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear on Thursday 23 April 2020.
