Teenager dies after Carlton collision

A teenage girl has died following a serious collision in Carlton on 11 March.

Emergency services responded after a Volkswagen Passat collided with an Alfa Romeo, which then spun out of control and struck two pedestrians on Lygon Street on 12 March just before midday.

The 16-year-old Brunswick girl, who was a passenger in the Alfa Romeo, was critically injured and taken to hospital.

Sadly, she died today.

Two other occupants of the Alfa Romeo, a 61-year-old Brunswick man and a 53-year-old Brunswick woman were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two pedestrians, a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Carlton, were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit and Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged the driver of the Volkswagen, a 40-year-old Essendon man with:

• Negligently cause serious injury

• Dangerous driving causing serious injury

He was remanded in custody to appear before court at a later date.
