Temporary airspace restrictions for Newcastle Williamtown Air Show

‘Nobbys’ Restricted Area

A temporary restricted area (TRA) will be established overhead Newcastle city south to Redhead on 18 November, impacting uncontrolled airspace as well as permanent restricted areas R578A-D. Military aircraft will be conducting fly pasts and display flights throughout the day. Exact timings will be published through a NOTAM prior to the airshow.

The TRA will also impact several air routes which will have amended clearance instructions. All pilots planning to operate in the Newcastle and Williamtown areas during this time should refer to the following Airservices Australia briefing document:

Drone restrictions

Drone operators are urged to leave their drone at home if attending the air show. Operators cannot fly drones in a way that creates a hazard to other people or aircraft. This includes not flying over crowds and staying 30 metres away from other people.

It’s important to remember that the TRA also applies to drone operators. Operating a drone in this area on 18 November is unsafe and illegal.

Always check a CASA-verified drone safety app before flying.
