Temporary Waste Centre in Alstonville set to close

From Monday 11 April, Public Works Advisory NSW will start works to permanently close the Temporary Disaster Waste Transfer Facility in Alstonville.

The facility was set up to temporarily accept flood waste from Upper Byron, Lismore, Casino, Ballina, Lower Richmond and surrounding areas.

The facility will no longer be accepting flood waste and will reduce its operation hours to 7am – 6pm. Operations will now focus on removing all the stockpiled waste and recyclable materials to landfills and recycling facilities in Southeast Queensland. Truck movements will decrease significantly over the coming weeks and are expected to cease completely by 24 April 2022. The final stage of works will involve rehabilitating the site.

The facility has played a crucial role in removing flood waste from thousands of properties across our region, accepting over 7,000 truckloads of flood waste.

Council thanks the nearby residents for their patience and understanding while this temporary facility operated to support our community.
