Visitors to Griffith Pioneer Park Museum can now enjoy a refreshed experience in The Area News building, following a facelift completed by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff.
Over recent months, volunteers have worked tirelessly to renovate and improve the building, helping to preserve an important part of the region’s history while enhancing its presentation for visitors.
As part of the upgrade, the Museum’s Curator has also developed and installed a series of new interpretive information panels. These panels provide additional historical context, stories and insights into the role The Area News played in documenting the development of the local community and surrounding region.
Museum Manager Jenny O’Donnell said the project demonstrates the significant contribution volunteers make to preserving and presenting local history.
“Our volunteers have once again shown incredible dedication and pride in the Museum. Their efforts have transformed The Area News building, while the new information panels help bring the stories to life for visitors,” she said.
The revitalised display offers a more engaging and informative experience, ensuring the history of The Area News remains accessible to current and future generations.
With free Museum entry continuing throughout 2026 for residents of the 2680 and 2681 postcode areas, now is the perfect time for locals to visit the newly refreshed building and discover the stories behind one of the region’s most important historical publications.
The Museum extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers involved in the project and encourages visitors to take the opportunity to explore the updated building during their next visit.
