Theft and assault in Oakleigh South

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a theft and assault at a business in Oakleigh South last month.

It is alleged two males entered the Centre Road store about 3.10pm on 29 March and headed to a spray paint display.

The males were approached by two security guards after allegedly putting spray paint cans inside their clothing.

The two males attempted to run off but were stopped just outside the store by the security.

Security attempted to get the males details when one of the guards was punched to the head, the other was chased back into the store where the offenders began throwing stock around.

Another staff member confronted the males and one of them allegedly spat in the male staff members eye before they both ran from the store and left in a vehicle.

One of the males, a 31-year-old St Kilda man, has since been arrested and charged but the second male is yet to be located.

He is described as aged approximately 30-years-old, 183cm tall, slim build, shoulder length brown hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing a black jacket, light coloured button up shirt, light coloured shorts and dark coloured runners.

Investigators have released an image of a male they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may recognise the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
