Theft and deception in Narre Warren and Hallam

Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a theft from a car and use of stolen bank cards in Narre Warren and Hallam this month.

Investigators have been told an unknown man entered a vehicle parked on Walker Road, Mount Waverly between 11pm on 8 January and 5.30am on 9 January.

The man rummaged through the glove box and the centre console before leaving with cash, the victim’s bank cards, and three car floor mats.

It is believed the offender used the cards to make purchases at businesses in the Narre Warren and Hallam areas.

He attended a convenience store in Narre Warren and used a stolen card to purchase gift cards and cigarettes about 5.50am on 9 January.

About an hour later, he attended another convenience store in Hallam and used the victim’s bank card to purchase cigarettes, a loaf of bread, and a four pack of energy drinks.

Investigators have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is perceived to be of Islander appearance, with a solid build, and short brown hair with a fade cut.

He was wearing a black t-shirt with large blue/green and white vertical print, black track pants and black and white slides.
