Third arrest after police impersonation

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged impersonation of police officers incident in Whittington yesterday.

It is alleged the occupants of a black Mazda, a woman and three men, stopped on Solar Drive and approached two men just after 8am.

The group allegedly identified themselves as police and proceeded to search the pair before taking their mobile phones and wallets.

They then fled the scene and attended an Orbit Street residence about 9am, where they allegedly told occupants they were police before entering.

The group allegedly ransacked the premises and stole two cars, mobile phones and cash.

Police executed a warrant at a premises and a 47-year-old Corio man was arrested.

He is assisting police with their enquiries.

A 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both from Corio, were arrested in Norlane yesterday.

They were charged with robbery, false imprisonment, home invasion, impersonate police officer, theft of motor car and other offences.

They appeared at Geelong Magistrates’ Court today and have been remanded to next appear on 20 June, 2023.

All three cars have been recovered in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
