Having carefully considered recommendations made by Australia’s Threatened Species Scientific Committee, the Threatened Species List has been updated to reflect all listings I have received for review to date.
This includes 34 listings, three ecological communities, and the recognition that a small, daisy-like plant species, Myriocephalus nudus, not seen since the 1840’s in the claypan wetlands of West Australia’s south-west, be now classified as extinct. This follows a 30 year search to identify its habitat.
The list plays an important role in monitoring and protecting our native species and it has been an immediate priority for me as Environment Minister to work with the Threatened Species Commissioner to ensure we are coordinating efforts across all levels of government and the community to protect our native species.
