Three charged following bottle shop theft investigation – Lake Macquarie

Three people have been charged following an investigation into several bottle shop stealing incidents.

The investigation was launched after detectives linked more than 10 stealing incidents from bottle shops across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie since November 2023.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested two teenagers – aged 17 and 18 – in Dudley about 7.30am yesterday (Thursday 11 January 2024), before they were taken to Belmont Police Station.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with 10 counts of larceny, enter vehicle without consent of owner, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Friday 12 January 2024).

The 18-year-old man was charged with three counts of larceny, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Friday 12 January 2024).

Following further inquiries, a search warrant was conducted at a home on Bradman Street, Charlestown, about 2pm yesterday (Thursday 11 January 2024).

During the search of the property, police allegedly located seized 30 bottles of liquor and a purse believed to have been stolen.

An 18-year-old man was arrested at the property before being taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with two counts of goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
