Three men charged, more than $118,000 cash seized, and clan lab dismantled in North West Metropolitan Region

Police have dismantled a clandestine laboratory, seized more than $118,000 cash, and charged three men as part of an investigation into the manufacture and distribution of methylamphetamine in Sydney’s west.

Earlier this year, officers from North West Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Haslingden to investigate the supply and manufacture of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators arrested two men, aged 44 and 45, about 11.30pm on Tuesday (27 August 2019), outside an industrial unit on The Horsley Drive, Smithfield.

Both men were then taken to Fairfield Police Station.

Investigators established a crime scene at the property after noticing a distinct smell emanating from inside the unit.

A crime scene warrant was executed about 4.30am yesterday (Wednesday 28 August 2019), and investigators uncovered a clandestine drug laboratory.

The lab was inspected by officers from the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Team and examined by specialist forensic officers.

As police dismantled the lab, they located a false wall in an upstairs room.

Officers removed the wall and arrested a 37-year-old man, who was allegedly residing in the space. He was taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A large number of items and equipment related to drug manufacture-related equipment, mobile phones, and more than 300g of methylamphetamine was seized.

Officers also executed search warrants at two homes in West Hoxton and Smithfield yesterday.

A 62-year-old man was arrested at the Smithfield home and also taken to Fairfield Police Station.

During the searches, officers located and seized electronic devices, mobile phones, documentation, and more than $118,000 cash.

The 37-year-old, 44-year-old, 62-year-old men were charged with manufacture prohibited drug (large commercial quantity).

All three were refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court later today (Thursday 29 August 2019).

The 45-year-old man was released pending further inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
