Three men in court after police officer assaulted – Sydney’s CBD

Three men will face court today charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted in Sydney’s CBD overnight.

Just after midnight (Sunday 16 July 2023), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command and the Public Order and Riot Squad were called to a hotel at Elizabeth Street, Sydney, following reports of a brawl.

Police will allege in court that three men – aged 35, 43 and 47 – were fighting at a function inside the hotel.

As the men tried to leave the hotel, they allegedly assaulted police and resisted arrest before the 35-year-old man assaulted a male senior constable. He deployed his taser before all three men were arrested, with two taken to Day Street Police Station and the other to Surry Hills Police Station.

The 32-year-old senior constable was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

The 35-year-old man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and affray.

The 43-year-old man and 47-year-old man were both charged with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and affray.

All three men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
