A perfect storm for sporting success is brewing in the City of Logan with construction commencing on new clubhouses in Jimboomba and Beenleigh.
Community sporting clubs Jimboomba Thunder Junior Rugby League Football Club and Logan Lightning FC will receive much-needed facility upgrades at their respective home grounds.
Mayor Darren Power said the investment would breathe new life into two longstanding local clubs.
“Our grassroots sporting clubs play an important role in the health and wellbeing of the community, and it will be fantastic to see these two clubs boosted with new facilities,” Councillor Power said.
The upgrades to the Jimboomba Thunder Rugby League clubhouse form part of the draft Jimboomba Park Masterplan.
The new clubhouse will feature a clubroom, additional changerooms, outdoor viewing areas, canteen, referees’ room, office, storage room, spectator amenities and a first aid room.
The $4.3 million project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Logan City Council.
Australian Government funding of $3.9 million was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. The program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
The renewed Logan Lightning FC facility at Chris Green Park, Beenleigh will include four changerooms, outdoor viewing areas, clubroom, canteen, referees’ room, office, storage room, spectator amenities and first aid room.
The $4.8 million project is funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the Female Facilities and Water Safety Stream Program.

Lifestyle Chair Councillor Tony Hall said the upgrades highlight the importance of grassroots sporting clubs in an active and healthy community.
“These new facilities will ensure that the Logan Lightning and Jimboomba Thunder can continue to provide a safe and welcoming space for the community to enjoy all the benefits grassroots sport has to offer,” Cr Hall said.
Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan said the community was excited at the prospect of the new facility in Jimboomba.
“This project has been a long time coming for the Jimboomba Thunder Junior Rugby League Football Club, and I’m looking forward to seeing it well used once finished,” Cr Bannan said.
Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy said Logan Lighting is one of the largest community sporting clubs in the city.
“Logan Lightning supports nearly 1000 members across two venues, and it will be great to see their clubhouse at Chris Green Park upgraded to better serve their growing membership,” Cr Murphy said.
Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen said that the refreshed Chris Green Clubhouse would provide so many benefits for grassroot sports in Beenleigh.
“It is wonderful to see this project develop and come to fruition, after securing its initial funding in 2019,” Mr van Manen said.
