Tourism grants boost Territory’s Aborignal cultural experiences

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is boosting Aboriginal tourism to grow the sector and support the Territory’s vision to be a premier destination for unique Aboriginal tourism experiences.

The Aboriginal tourism grants support the development of Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences and product that encourage visitors to travel to the NT and stay longer.

The funding can be used to upgrade or develop new infrastructure or develop new product such as on country accommodation or Aboriginal cultural experiences.

Larrakia Development Corporation is one of 8 recipients to receive funding in the latest round of Aboriginal Tourism Grants that saw a total of $590,000 awarded.

Awarded $46,700, the Larrakia Development Corporation will engage tourism industry specialists to assist with product development ahead of the Larrakia Cultural Centre opening next year.

The Larrakia Cultural Centre will be built at the base of the Larrakia sacred site at Stokes Hill overlooking Darwin Harbour, providing an opportunity for visitors to explore Larrakia history, arts and crafts as well as dine in a signature restaurant overlooking Darwin harbour.

To date the Aboriginal Tourism Grant program has supported 52 Aboriginal tourism businesses with grants totalling more than $2.3 million. For details on successful grant recipients head to tourismnt.com.au here
