Gang Crime Squad detectives have charged a tow truck driver in relation to a violent incident at a crash scene in Kardinya on Wednesday 10 June 2020.
About 8:00pm the victim, a man in his 30s, was involved in a crash with another vehicle on North Lake Road. Several tow truck drivers attended, however the victim had made arrangements via his insurer for towage of his crashed vehicle.
One of the tow truck drivers continued to pressure the man into using his services and organised for another, more senior representative of the tow truck business to attend the scene. That man arrived a short time later and it will be alleged he commenced taking photos of the crash victim’s family.
It will be further alleged when the victim attempted to take a photo of the man, he was physically assaulted including being taken hold of by his neck. It appears the offender left the scene when he became aware of another person at the scene filming the assault.
A 39-year-old man, who is a member of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, has been charged with Common Assault. He is due to appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Monday 13 July 2020.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Mottolini from the Gang Crime Squad said the intimidation of, and assault on a crash victim is unacceptable.
“To see the gratuitous violence that is commonplace between outlaw motorcycle gang members be extended to a member of the public is of great concern to police.
“A car crash victim has enough to deal with – they don’t need to be fearful of tow truck drivers who are attending the crash scene. There are some great tow truck drivers out there that do more than is expected of them to assist car crash victims, however it is the actions of those who act like this tow truck driver that give other hard-working tow truck drivers a bad name.”
