Townsville City Council has welcomed signs its Back to Basics approach is working, with independent community satisfaction data recognising improvements in Council’s performance and service delivery.
In the 2026 Snap Send Solve Community Satisfaction Index, regarded as one of the nation’s most comprehensive snapshots of local government performance, Townsville recorded the largest year-on-year improvement of any council in Australia.
In 2026, Townsville City Council’s rating increased by 7.1 per cent to 58.5 (from 54.6), bucking national trends that saw most Australians’ satisfaction with their councils decline.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the result was encouraging, but that Council remained focused on working even harder for the community.
“Over the past year Townsville City Council has taken a Back to Basics approach that is all about focusing on the services residents rely on every day and making it easier for them to engage with us when something isn’t up to standard,” Cr Dametto said.
“A huge part of this has been improving how quickly we respond to issues raised by the community, whether they be potholes, water leaks or parks and public spaces that need attention.
“We’re encouraged to see positive signs that residents are noticing those improvements and the work Council is doing across the city.
“Council handles in excess of 88,000 community requests each year, and one of the biggest improvements has been reducing the time to process and action those requests received via Snap Send Solve.
“The highlight has been seeing our Back to Basics approach gradually but consistently deliver results across the city.
“Whether it’s road repairs, park upgrades, drainage improvements or responding to local issues raised by residents, we’ve worked hard to ensure we’re delivering where the community expects us to.
“It’s encouraging feedback, but we’re not taking anything for granted.
“We know there is still plenty of work to do, and these positive signs motivate us to work even harder and faster over the next 12 months for the good people of Townsville.”
Residents are encouraged to use Snap Send Solve to report non-urgent issues such as potholes, damaged signs, litter, park maintenance concerns and minor infrastructure defects.
For urgent matters, residents should contact Council’s Customer Service Centre directly on 13 48 10, which is available 24 hours a day and includes an after-hours emergency service.
