Toyota Australia recalls Corolla Hatch vehicles due to back door wire harness

Toyota Australia has today announced that it will initiate a safety recall involving Corolla Hatch Petrol and Hybrid vehicles produced between 5th December 2019 and 17th December 2019. There are 780 vehicles involved in the Australian market.

For involved Corolla vehicles, the back door (rear hatch) contains a wire harness and connectors for electrical components. Damaged equipment was used during the production process to inspect the conductivity of the wire harness and the installed electrical components through a specific connector. In this condition, an oxide layer may develop on the surface of those terminals due to vehicle vibration and exposure to air over time, resulting in increased electrical resistance.

Due to this increase in electrical resistance, the backup lamps may become inoperative. If the backup lamps do not illuminate when the vehicle is in reverse, there is an increased risk of a crash.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace the back door wire harness free of charge to the vehicle owner.

It is expected that it will take approximately 1 hour to replace the back door wire harness. However, depending upon the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary for the owner to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.
