Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted at a bus stop in Doncaster East last month.
The 23-year-old was waiting at the Blackburn Road bus stop, near the corner of Maggs Street, about 8.55am on Monday 27 January when an unknown male approached and sat down next to her.
The woman stood up and was followed by the man, who sexually assaulted her before exposing himself.
He then walked off along Maggs Street.
Investigators have released a facial composite of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.
He is perceived as Middle Eastern in appearance and about 165-175cm tall with a medium build, brown beard and moustache.
The man was wearing a light-coloured hoodie with a small black rectangular logo in the centre, as well as navy blue shorts that appeared to be splattered with paint or plaster.
He was also wearing dark work boots with no laces.
As part of the investigation, Transit Safety Division police will today be out and about calling on the public’s help to identify the man.
Operation Report It will see police boarding buses from the vicinity of the assault to a shopping centre bus terminal on Doncaster Road.
Transit Senior Sergeant Michele Clooney said police would be handing out flyers and encouraging community members to report any information they have.
“Even if you think it’s insignificant, the smallest detail can often be the breakthrough we need,” Sen-Sgt Clooney said.
“Our monthly days of action are all about taking a proactive stance against sexual offences and showing offenders that we absolutely will not tolerate it.
“Too many sexual offences unfortunately go unreported on the public transport network, often for a range of reasons, but we need the community to understand that any unwanted sexual behaviour is a crime and will be taken seriously by police.”
Operation Report was launched in 2019 to encourage people to call out crime on public transport.
