Police from Transit Safety Division (TSD) will be highly visible on trains from Melbourne to Shepparton this week, targeting criminal and antisocial behaviour during Operation Safe Commute.
The operation will see transit officers, local uniform and plain clothes police teaming up with Authorised Officers, to patrol V/Line trains and train stations along the Seymour and Shepparton lines on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 May.
A state-of-the-art CCTV camera trailer will also be set up to boost policing efforts at some of the target stations including Broadmeadows, Wallan, Seymour and Shepparton.
TSD Inspector Andrew Gustke said the community had the right to feel safe using public transport and criminal or antisocial behaviour would not be tolerated.
“There will be a visible presence from Melbourne right through the state’s north-eastern corridor to Shepparton and Seymour to ensure the community feel safe,” Insp Gustke said.
“We want to send the message that antisocial and criminal behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated.
“Everyone using public transport has the right to feel safe.
“The highly visible nature of our CCTV camera trailer will also be a significant deterrent to anyone doing or considering doing the wrong thing.”
Operation Safe Commute will run over two days from Thursday 28 to Friday 29 May.
