Labor is again calling for the Gutwein Government to extend the Make Yourself at Home travel vouchers scheme to include cafes and restaurants.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said it is very disappointing that the Government has not acted on something that would so obviously help these businesses as they try to recover from the crippling effects of the pandemic.
“With less than a month for people to spend their vouchers, only around 20% of them have been redeemed. That’s just $2.5 million of the total funding allocation of $12.5 million.
“Limiting the voucher scheme to accommodation and tourism experiences ignores a major part of the visitor economy which has helped drive the success of tourism in our state.
“Labor believes adding food and dining to the range of experiences the vouchers can be applied to would instantly boost their redemption.
“I am sure anyone lucky enough to get a voucher would be excited to be able to use it to enjoy some of Tasmania’s finest produce at the same time as supporting our food and hospitality operators.
“Now is the time to get more money into the Tasmanian economy and nothing could be more in keeping with the state’s reputation as a fine food and dining destination than to extend the voucher scheme to our hospitality sector.”
