Troppo Architects to design upgrades for Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Art and Culture Centre

NT Government

In another milestone for the Territory Labor Government’s Arts Trail Regional Gallery Extension Program, a design consultancy tender worth $367,530 has been awarded to NT company, Troppo Architects to plan upgrades to the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Art and Culture Centre (GYRACC) in Katherine.

The design is expected to be completed by October this year.

The project is part of the $30 million Arts Trail Gallery Extension Program, providing upgrades to several community owned arts and cultural centres across Katherine, Tennant Creek and Arnhem Land towards maximising the Northern Territory as a global tourism destination for Aboriginal arts and culture.

The upgrade will improve visitor engagement, operational efficiency and functionality, and support GYRACC to develop and promote new arts and cultural experiences for locals and visitors.

The design will include:

· a multifunctional outdoor space to cater for large outdoor events and performances such as music concerts and cultural events;

· improved retail and office facilities;

· a new auditorium/multipurpose space to improve backstage facilities, dressing rooms and amenities for performers, and upgraded kitchen facilities;

· upgrading the gallery; and

· a landmark entry statement and improved directional and building signage.

Troppo Architects will work in consultation with local stakeholders, including the GYRACC Board and staff.

Construction is scheduled to begin early next year for completion by September 2022.
