Two charged as investigations into shootings in Sydney’s south and south west continue

Police have charged two men as part of an ongoing investigation into public place shootings in Sydney’s south and south west.

Just before 2am on Friday 27 December 2019, police were called to Wollongong Road, Arncliffe, after shots were fired at a home.

Four occupants – including two children, aged two and three – were inside sleeping at the time but they were uninjured.

A white Mercedes Benz was seen driving away on Wollongong Road, before turning onto Done Street.

In a second incident, about 5.15pm on Tuesday 31 December 2019, a man and woman stole a Kia Rio parked on Jindalee Place at Riverwood, following a crash on Belmore Road near Rotary Park.

During the incident, the man shot the male occupant of the vehicle in the leg, before leaving the scene in the Kia.

The man was taken to St George Hospital and has since been released.

In a third incident, about 10.15am on Saturday 4 January 2020, a silver Mercedes AMG approached the intersection of Daisy and Gordon Parker streets, Revesby, when a black matte Mercedes Benz reversed and struck the AMG.

The driver exited and fired a number of shots towards the AMG, which drove away.

The occupants of the AMG – a 38-year-old man and two children, aged seven and nine – were not injured.

Detectives from the State Crime Commands Criminal Groups Squad, assisted by St George and Bankstown Police Area Commands, are investigating the incidents – which are being treated as targeted and linked – under Strike Force Cruikshank.

Last week, detectives charged two men – aged 44 and 46 – in relation to the investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, officers arrested a 42-year-old man during a vehicle stop at Wolli Creek Road, Arncliffe, about 7am yesterday (Tuesday 14 April 2020).

A short time later, strike force investigators, with assistance from Strike Force Raptor, executed a search warrant at a workshop in Punchbowl.

A number of items relevant to the investigation were seized.

The man was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with two counts of accessory after the fact robbery armed (in company), and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Police will allege the man was involved in the incidents at Riverwood in December 2019 and Revesby in January this year.

The Arncliffe man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 15 April 2020).

Following further investigations, police arrested a 36-year-old man at a home on Ernest Street, Lakemba, just before 7am today.

The man was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob in company and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

It will be alleged that the man was involved in the planning of the Revesby shooting in January.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Cruikshank are continuing.
