A man and woman will appear in court today charged as part of an investigation into ongoing drug supply across the Illawarra.
In September 2023, officers attached to the Lake Illawarra Police District Drug Unit established Strike Force Twigg to investigate the ongoing supply of methamphetamine and heroin in the Illawarra region.
Following inquiries, investigators with assistance from the Dog Unit and Raptor South, executed simultaneous search warrants at three units in Northcliffe Drive, Port Kembla and a house in Chaplin Road, Albion Park about 6am yesterday (Monday 8 January).
Police allegedly seized drugs, cash, a glock-style gel blaster, ammunition, a homemade taser and allegedly stolen property items, including two generators.
A 28-year-old-man and 20-year-old woman were arrested at the Port Kembla unit and conveyed to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
He was charged with
– knowingly direct activities of criminal group, supply prohibited drugs on ongoing basis
– cause to be carried by post article w/ control, knowingly deal with proceeds of Crime
– Owner/occupier knowingly allow use as drug premises
– dishonestly obtain property by deception,
– Larceny
– possess unauthorised pistol
– possess ammunition
– contravene a firearms prohibition order.
She was charged with participate in criminal activity, organise, conduct and assist drug premises, supply prohibited drug, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.
Both were refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 9 January 2024).
Inquiries under Strike Force Twigg continue, and further arrests are anticipated.
