Five people have been injured following a serious single-vehicle crash near Narrabri this morning.
Just before 1.30am (Saturday 9 October 2021), emergency services were called to Maules Creek Road, near Old Gunnedah Road, at Tarriaro – about 28km east of Narrabri – following reports a Toyota Landcruiser had hit a wild pig, before leaving the road and colliding with a tree.
The occupants of the Toyota – four men and a woman – were trapped inside the vehicle for several hours, before being released by Fire & Rescue NSW.
The driver – a 28-year-old man – was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with critical injuries.
The front seat passenger – a 21-year-old man – was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The three rear passengers, a 21-year-old woman and two men – aged 20 and 22 – all sustained serious injuries.
The woman was airlifted to St George Hospital, while the older man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
The younger man was taken by road ambulance to Narrabri Hospital.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information, or dashcam footage from the area, is urged to come forward.
