Two men caught taking undersize abalone near George Town

Police would like to remind people about the rules and requirements for abalone fishing after two men were caught with undersize abalone in the George Town area on Tuesday, 7 January 2020.

Police officers from Northern Marine Services caught the men taking undersize black lip abalone after receiving information through the ‘Fishwatch’ hotline.

The abalone was seized and both men will be issued with fisheries infringement notices.

Police will continue to target illegal fishing activities and marine safety offences through both land and water based patrols over summer.

Anyone fishing for abalone in Tasmania must hold a current recreational abalone licence and large penalties apply to anyone who fails to comply with the rules.
