Police have reached the scene of a plane crash north-west of Casino, and confirm the two men on board have been found deceased.
Wreckage of the aircraft was found in dense bushland by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter approximately 1.5-kilometres into the Koreelah National Park at about 9.45am today (Monday 13 January 2020).
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) initiated a search when the single-engine Tailwind aircraft failed to arrive at Boonah in Queensland as planned at about 3pm (NSW time).
The aircraft, believed to have two brothers on board, had departed Casino Airport an hour earlier.
Officers attached to Richmond Police District were assisted by NSW Police Rescue and SES volunteers to access the site which is located in very steep and heavily-wooded terrain.
Shortly before 3pm, officers arrived at the site and confirmed two men had been located deceased.
The men – believed to be aged their 60s from the Toowoomba area – are yet to be formally identified.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have been informed and will be responsible for any investigation into the crash.
The men’s families are being apprised of the situation and have requested privacy at this time.
