Two men facing extradition from Queensland on outstanding warrants, NSW

Two men wanted on NSW warrants have been arrested in Queensland over alleged fraud and traffic offences in northern NSW.

Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District Target Action Group (TAG) along with detectives commenced an investigation into the theft of motor vehicles and subsequent fraud offences in the Tweed Heads region since December.

A number of the stolen vehicles were involved in pursuits with police during this time.

In another incident, officers were involved in a struggle with a man in Kingscliff on Tuesday (14 January 2020), after sighting a firearm in his vehicle and attempting to retrieve it. The driver fled, striking a senior constable.

Following extensive inquiries and with the assistance of Queensland Police, investigators attended a Mermaid Beach motel yesterday (Friday 17 January 2020), and arrested four people, including two men – aged 26 and 29 – wanted on NSW arrest warrants.

NSW Police will apply for the men’s extradition when they appear at Southport Magistrates Court today (Saturday 18 January 2020).
