Two officers allegedly assaulted during arrest following breach of bail – Urbenville

Two police officers have been assaulted while arresting a man following a breach of bail at Urbenville, about 60km north-west of Casino, overnight.

Around 8pm (Sunday 17 September 2023), officers attached to Richmond Police District were called to a home on Tooloom Street, Urbenville, following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.

Police will allege in court that a 39-year-old man was in breach of his bail conditions.

As he was arrested, the man allegedly assaulted two police officers, one of which received a bite wound to his hand.

A 27-year-old male constable attended Lismore Base Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery for a bite wound to his hand.

A 24-year-old male constable sustained scratches to his hands and did not require hospitalisation.

The man was taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and wound police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 19 September 2023).
